Montana Alberta Tie Line ("MATL")
MATL while under construction
Jointly founded by LECTRIX and Rocky Mountain Power (2006) this project was subsequently sold to Tonbridge Power (ticker "TBZ") via a stock swap, and in 2011 to Enbridge. The project ("MATL") is a 214-mile (345-kilometer), 230-Kilovolt transmission line that will interconnect the electricity markets of Alberta and Montana. Northern Montana and southern Alberta are home to some of the best wind energy sources in North America. Among all of the United States, Montana is rated number five for wind-energy potential. The MATL line will enable the development of new wind-energy projects by linking this renewable and emission-free source of power to consumers across North America.
Saskatchewan Alberta Tie Line ("SATL")
Rocky Mountain Power (2006) and LECTRIX have once again joined forces, this time to develop a link between Saskatchewan and Alberta. The project is planned as a 150 MW back-to-back DC link between the Alberta system and Saskatchewan Power's system. Utilizing new technology, the system is expected to not only link the two systems, but also offer other ancilliary services. The project design contemplates expansion to 300MW.
Also a joint effort of Rocky Mountain Power and LECTRIX is the ASISt compressed energy storage project. It is contemplated that the ASISt project will operate in the same vicinity as the SATL project and provide supplemental system benefits.
